Yeah, all these Celtic god and goddess names, and for this one, the Greek won out...Erinyes actually were several goddesses sometimes known as "furies" which appeared to exact vengeance. Erinyes is not known for vengeance, but the inspiration to use the name was the abundance of eyes on this creature's flank and underbelly. We have no idea what species or origin Erinyes represents, but the name seemed appropriate and attractive, and it stuck.
Black with purple-flowing mane and tail, this individual invokes fear and guilt in the hearts of anybody who fails to live up to the truth or a promise. This is more due to the nature of the namesakes than anything else, as Erinyes does not actually pursue anyone. Nevertheless, those eyes really do make an impression...when they are open. When they are closed, they look like little purple scars, and those who do not know of this dark and beautiful creature can easily perceive her (we'll say that for now) to be a normal horse, or at least as normal as any unnaturally-colored horse can be. Granted, the presence of "demi-god" sorts of individuals in our herd makes us a little less awed than most herds that do not have odd colors. |
